Dizzy's Club

Willie Jones III: Our Man Higgins

Ornette Coleman’s “Lonely Woman,” Lee Morgan’s “The Sidewinder,” Eddie Harris’ “Love for Sale,” Cedar Walton’s “Bolivia” are a few selections from the jazz canon on which Billy Higgins served as a masterful drummer. On these special evenings, drummer Willie Jones III, Higgins’ most noted protégé, will lead Our Man Higgins to honor the spirit and music of the legendary drummer featured on these most important records.

Pianist Chick Corea will join Valdés for the second half of the concert in the pair’s first-ever collaboration.

Born and raised in Russia, Alex Sipiagin is an expert instrumentalist and a renowned composer and group leader. Sipiagin’s bands never fail to impress, and tonight’s line-up, which includes Will Vinson, Seamus Blake, John Escreet, Matt Brewer, Donald Edwards, and special guest vocalist Alina Engibaryan, will perform works from his latest album, NoFo Skies.

The RodBros

A working unit since 2002, The Rodriguez Brothers Band is co-led by pianist/composer Rob and trumpeter/composer Michael. Individually they have worked with icons such as Roy Haynes, Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Palmieri, Quincy Jones, and Harry Connick Jr.— and together they have released a series of well-received records rooted in, but not limited to, Afro-Cuban music and jazz. We look forward to hearing what comes next from the RodBros, and tonight’s performance at Dizzy’s Club could offer a tantalizing taste!

The Abyssinian Mass by Wynton Marsalis

Presented in Collaboration with Lincoln Center's White Light Festival

Wynton Marsalis’ epic The Abyssinian Mass comes to the House of Swing for an exclusive three-night run. Featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and 70-person gospel choir Chorale Le Chateau directed by Damien L. Sneed, The Abyssinian Mass is a sweeping blend of big band bravado, impassioned solos, hand claps, tambourine slaps, and some of the mightiest voices you’ll hear outside of church.

In West’s own concerts, her diverse arrangements guarantee fun surprises around every corner and something to suit all tastes; from Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin to Leonard Bernstein, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles, she honors a variety of classics while confidently taking them in her own direction.

Cobb’s latest stands as a tribute to the people who have been part of his long journey in jazz and are no longer with us.

It's always a pleasure to welcome back the universally beloved trombone master Wycliffe Gordon, a former star of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Wynton Marsalis Septet. Continuing our popular tradition, Gordon kicks off the holiday season with a five-night stay at Dizzy’s Club and a special performance on Thanksgiving.
